Fewer credit card customers defaulting
The Bank of England say credit card companies and banks overestimated the number of borrowers who would default on loans and cards.
Lenders expected an increase towards the end of last year, but in fact default rates fell from October to December.
It’s as consumers have rushed to pay off unsecured loans and credit card bills, paying off £400 billion worth of debts last month alone.
The Bank of England’s expecting this trend to continue throughout 2010.
Meanwhile the ‘Trends in Lending’ report also found the difference between the base rate of 0.5 per cent, and the interest rates on cards is much bigger than a year ago, but say the difference is because of the higher risk of defaults.

How does a pre-paid credit card/ gift card work? ( Like with online purchases)?
Well i dont have a credit card and i want to make a purchase on the internet, but i dont get how the pre-paid credit cards/gift cards work.
Here are my questions:
1. Were can i get one? (Jewel, bank w/e etc…)
2. Can i put more money on it after i put some on it? ( i want to buy something that is in Euros but i dont know how much it is in dollars so i dont want to put to much and have 3 or 4 dollars extra on it and not able to spend it. or put to little and cant purchase it)
3. Do they cost anything to activate?
4. What is better the gift card’s you can use on the internet, or the pre paid credit cards?

Here are the answers to your questions:
1. You can get one online or at a store, such as check cashing center. Online is much easier.
2. Yes but only if you have a reloadable prepaid credit card; avoid prepaid gift cards because you can reload them.
3. Most cards have an activation fee. Some offer free activation if you add direct deposit to your account, like the accountnow card.
4. Prepaid credit cards, because you can use them just like a gift card. Also, since they have your name on them, you are protected if you loose them where as if you loose a gift card you cant get the money back.
FYI. if you get an accountnow prepaid card you can also get a visa gift card with them. so you can have both cards if you want.
Also, try using a card comparison site to find a prepaid credit card. You can get information about different cards, apply for a card, and get consumer reviews.
Can I exchange cash for a pre-paid credit card at Wells Fargo?
I have $250 and I need to buy something online. If I go to my bank (Wells Fargo), I was told that I could exchange cash for a card loaded with $250 on it. Will Wells Fargo actually do this? If so, will there be a charge?
I work for WF, its just a gift card, if you have a debit card you can just deposit the cash into your account and use your debit card online, just my opinion, but you can buy the gift card if you really want. There is a purchasing fee. its $5 or $3.50 or something like that. I can’t remember the exact ammount. You can call the Phone Bank and they can tell you the ammount it would cost.
